Another favourite for women worldwide is Bridget Jones’ Diary, which was followed by a similarly successful sequel. Renee Zellweger’s Bridget is joined by not one but two iconic love interests, played with vigour by rom-com favourites Hugh Grant and Colin Firth.

As far as iconic fictional females go, Vivian Ward and Bridget Jones are joined by undercover FBI agent Gracie Hart, portrayed by Sandra Bullock in Miss Congeniality and its sequel. Combining some badass female cop action with all the conventions of the chick flick that we know and love, Miss Congeniality is another valuable addition to any chick flick collection.
