Sorry, I can't watch telenovelas at all. I find their history (hailingg from radionovelas for example) very fascinating, but I just can't watch more than 5min before needing to change the channel. I find them so sappy, so over the top and simply boring in the way they endlessly stretch out every little piece of plot. It's like watching someone die in an Italian opera, over and over again out of one's own free will. And I'm simply not masochistic enough for that. :D

Ugly Betty actually started not only as a remake of Betty La Fea but as a German telenovela (the first ever in Germany) called Verliebt In Berlin. At least, that's the story I've heard/read.

Have a great Sunday Rick, cheers,

I totally agree and I love Telenovelas!

When I am visiting my friends in Cuba we watch a Telenovela from Cuba and another one from Brazil (Portuguese dubbed into Spanish). They are so powerful and moving. One example is from when my Spanish wasn't very good. I was watching an episode and I had no clue what was going on but I could tell it was soooo sad that I started to cry! My friends were all laughing at me but it turns out a lady in the show had her sister just pass away. I could feel her emotion even though I couldn't understand her.
