Myth Vs Reality – Do it Yourself Film Transfer

June 1st, 2009 Filed under: Uncategorized — Movie Critic

You have a shoebox full of old movies and tapes that you’d like to transfer to a DVD. And you’ve probably seen those little plastic devices in photography and video magazines – a “do it yourself film transfer.” All you have to do is attach the device to the front of your video camera lens, run your film through a projector and let your camera “capture” the film. Ta-da! You’ll have a do it yourself film transfer. Any problems? Well…

The reality is the quality you’ll end up with is less than acceptable. You’re loosing clarity, you’re not clearing up any dust or scratches, your image will be wobbly, shifting from side-to-side. And that’s just for starters. Not to mention that you’ll need a projector – or worse – multiple projectors, depending on how many different film formats you have to transfer. There’s 8mm, Super 8mm and 16mm. If you’re trying to transfer videotape to a DVD, you’ll need different players, VHS, Betamax (remember that?) – the list goes on and on. And in the end, the quality that you end up with won’t be worth the time and money you invested in the process.

So what is the alternative? Have a professional do it for you. You hand over the film and/or tapes, and you’ll get back a high quality DVD with all of your memories preserved forever. You won’t have to worry about which DVD format to choose, whether or not your computer can even burn DVD’s, which projectors to round up, etc.. You’ll save, time, money and frustration! And once you see how your memories are preserved, you’ll be glad you did!

Whether your need film transfer, home movies transfer to DVDor your picture, slides to DVD, you will not regret putting your precious memories in the hands of a professional!
