Miley Cyrus AKA Hannah Montana

March 16th, 2009 Filed under: Uncategorized — Movie Critic

Unless you live under a rock, you’ve no undoubtedly heard of Hannah Montana (Miley Cyrus). She’s the teen superstar that has taken the entertainment world by storm.

Miley Ray Cyrus, born Destiny Hope Cyrus in Nashville, Tennessee on November 23, 1992, to father Billy Ray Cyrus (where she took her middle name from), and mother, Leticia “Tish” Finley. She spent most of her childhood on the family farm in nearby Franklin, Tennessee. She got her nickname (Miley) because she smiled all the time. Her name was later legally changed.

Although she is best known for her role of Hannah Montana, her first acting job was as “Kylie” on her father’s tv show “Doc.” She was twelve years old when she auditioned for the role of Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana, but it was first deemed that she was too small for the role. Disney, the shows producer, later changed their mind. Ironically, she had worked years to drop the southern accent, but Disney asked her to bring it back for the show.

To say that Cyrus has become a success would be an understatement. With albums debuted as #1 releases on BillBoard’s Top 200, numerous acting jobs, and a cult-like following, Cyrus is one of the top child stars in any genre of entertainment.

In December 2007, she was ranked #17 in the list of Forbes Top Twenty Superstar Earners under 25 with an annual earning of US$3.5 million. In April 2008, Us Weekly and Parade reported Cyrus’ earnings to be $18.2 million in 2007. She also ranked #35 on the “2008 Forbes Celebrity 100″ with an estimated earnings of $25 million from June 2007 until June 2008.

Obviously entertaining is in her blood. Beginning in February 2008, Miley Cyrus, with her friend and backup dancer, Mandy Jiroux, started producing their own “show.” Entitled The Miley and Mandy Show, the teens edit the videos, and “air” them on the popular Internet site, YouTube.

With so many film roles, music projects, and her continuing role on her television series, Miley Cyrus is poised to be a household name for many, many years to come.
