21 Movie Review
April 27th, 2010 Filed under: Uncategorized — Movie Critic
The story follows a group of MIT math geniuses who make up a clever card counting system so that they can steal money from the many casinos in Las Vegas. The film’s main character is Ben Campbell (Jim Sturgess) who is a math whiz who is about to graduate from MIT to pursue a career in medicine; however, he is unable to cover the $300,000 for tuition fees. When contacted by his professor Mickey (Kevin Spacey) to join a team of card-counters he is reluctant but he knows he needs the money and the fact that he wants to impress pretty girl Jill (Kate Bosworth) also helps.
The team of card counters make weekly visits to Vegas cashing in by using their plan, however they soon appear on the radar of casino security (Lawrence Fishburn) and not everything is plain sailing from hear on out.
This movie may not be completely faithful to the book but on this occasion I don’t think it hurts the movie. The card scenes are very entertaining and also the system they use to beat the casinos is very fun to watch and the excellent performance of all the cast but mainly Space and Sturgess then you’re onto an entertaining movie.
Fans of Gambling, ‘bringing down the house’ and the ‘Oceans’ franchise will enjoy this movie, and even if your just curious about this movie I would recommend you watch this entertaining movie. I award 21 with 3 stars out of 5 simply because it is an entertaining movie but not much more.
