You might have noted a parabolic dish and wondered why it was placed on the roof of many buildings. Such dishes are called satellite dishes. Let’s take a deeper look at them in this article.
Satellite dishes are used to receive signals for viewing satellite television channels. It is essentially a dish-shaped unit with a parabolic antenna that can receive microwave signals from various communication satellites and then broadcast them to required destinations.
The most common type of satellite dish is the VSAT. This dish enables two-way communications and is used primarily by organizations as a way to create private networks for themselves through which they communicate. The VAT satellites use the Ku band frequency. The antennas used by this satellite dish vary between 74cm to 120 cm in size.
Another type of satellite dish used is the multi-satellite one. This dish has been designed to enables communications between 16 positions operating in the Ku-band. Some multi-satellite dishes are so designed that they can get simultaneous receptions from various satellites located at different points.
Latest satellite dishes that are used for watching home television have a diameter size of 43cm to 80cm. They are fixed in a single position. These dishes offer good communication facility, however it should be noted that if the dish is too small interference such as rain and snowfall can hamper communication.
When it comes to the choice of which satellite dish is best, what must be considered is not the type of satellite dish but the reliability of the service provider. In the United States, the main satellite providers are Dish Network and DirecTV. There are other satellite providers as well, but only these two are known for providing the most reliable services. Though, both companies are essentially owned by the same person, they differ in the programming options that they offer. You should check out various programming options and make comparisons to choose a satellite dish provider who is apt for you.
