Twilight Role Playing

January 7th, 2010 Filed under: Uncategorized — Movie Critic

There are many reasons why twilight appeals to such a wide and varied audience. It takes themes of immortality and death, and couples them with thoughts on love, the nature of a relationship, and the nature of the preternatural world. As such it is natural for people to want to assume the roles of the characters in Twilight, in order to explore these themes for themselves.

There are a couple of ways to explore roles in the Twilight Universe. The most obvious is to take on the characters of Edward and Bella. This allows two people to play with the romantic aspects of the series, battling back and forth between indignant consternation, and free willed love. A more complex version of this would be to play out as Bella and Jacob, since Jacob represents the biggest complicating factor in the romantic part of the story.

There are also action roles which can be assumed. There are the Volturi, the hunter vampires, rogue werewolves, and a variety of allies and enemies which can be brought into the story.

One of the first choices that needs to be made when endeavoring to undertake any roleplaying experience based on an already existing story, is how closely will you choose to follow the books? Here there are a variety of options.

The simplest method is to simply act out the scenes in the books, giving each a flavor of your own distinct personality. In this way you can simply follow the chronology of the stories as written by the author.

Another choice you can make is to completely diverge from the original tale. This allows you to get really creative as you can take the pre-existing characters and have them interact in entirely new and fascinating ways.

Finally, you have the choice to simply fill in the blanks. This involves acting out scenes that weren’t fully described in the books, or to work through prequels, or through the story after the books end. This allows you creative freedom, without having to alter the story that you are already familiar with.
