The Most Anticipated Films in the Near Future

January 5th, 2010 Filed under: Uncategorized — Movie Critic

As a film critic, I’m always looking for new pieces of cinema that will grip me, exhilarate me and leave me with something to think about for the days, months and years after seeing it. There have been some fantastic films released within the ‘noughties’ (2000-2009), and now that the new decade is upon us, I am excited for the many future films that I have watched being developed over recent years.

The following is a short list of the films that I’m most eagerly awaiting us in the very near future (in no particular order).

(1) Shutter Island, 2010

Martin Scorsese is a director that needs no formal introduction. As the helmsman behind man classics including Goodfellas, Casino, Raging Bull and The Departed, Scorsese has in the works his first horror film, set for release in early 2010. With Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead role, this film has many counting down the days til release, and are excited to see what this celebrated and acclaimed director can do with a genre that is arguably foreign to him.

(2) Inception, 2010

One of the newest and hottest directors in Hollywood, Christopher Nolan is set to release Inception in the coming year. Having been the mastermind behind Memento, Batman Begins and Batman – The Dark Knight, Nolan’s work is a very unique breath of fresh air in what is generally considered to be a staling industry. With nothing else to go on besides Nolan’s words that Inception is “a contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind,” audiences are anticipation this film with much vigor.

(3) Alice in Wonderland, 2010

You can’t analyze the films of the nineties and noughties without the name Tim Burton appearing at least once. As the king of Gothic Romanticism, Burton’s ability to put a creepy yet charming and ultimately fascinating twist to all his films has caught the imaginations of audiences around the world. Thus, it’s no surprise that the release of his adaptation of Alice in Wonderland is creating quite a stir amongst the film industry. With Johnny Depp in the role as the mad hatter, this is surely going to be a film that, at the very least, entertains.

(4) Iron Man 2, 2010

The original Iron Man film, released in 2008, was an absolutely astounding commercial and critical success, and it’s no wonder that the sequel is on it’s way. Again with Robert Downey Jr. in the lead role as Tony Stark – a.k.a Iron Man – this film is creating huge stirs of excitement amongst hard core fans and casual film goers alike. With Jon Favrou again in the director’s chair things are looking up. As one critic was quoted as saying, “if it’s only half as good as the original, it’s still going to better than most other films.”

It seems that 2010 is going to be a very interesting, exciting and entertaining year of cinema.
