How to Save Money on Cable

December 17th, 2009 Filed under: Uncategorized — Movie Critic

Many people consider their cable to be as essential as food and water. It is also quite expensive. Depending on what type of plan you get, spending more than $100 a month is not unheard of. There are several ways you can save money when purchasing cable.

First off, you should never just call up a cable provider and ask what their prices are. Customers who are “walk in” are charged the highest amounts. You should be aware that cable companies perpetually have “special deals”. Only those who lack consumer savvy pay the full price.

Some deals are better than others. Companies are constantly mailing out offers. If you can, it might be a good idea to collect cable ads that come in the mail rather than just throwing them out. But if you’ve just moved in and want to get cable immediately, this isn’t an option.

Find out the cable companies that are located in your area. Check out their websites and see if there are any specials. You might be able to find something that is reasonable. If you are willing to go the extra length to save money, try calling the companies and bargaining with them. Say you can get a premium cable plan for cheaper from their competitors and see if you can bargain them down. If you aren’t good in these types of situations you could maybe have a friend or family member do this for you.

Lastly, look out for so-called “triple play” deals. Cable companies have been offering bundles for cable television, high speed internet and phone at very low prices. You can save a good amount of money if you go with this plan. Be sure to do research on your current contracts though. For example, you might not be able to get out of your current internet connection contract without paying a hefty early cancellation fee.
