A New Vision of Halloween – Really?

Is Halloween your favorite holiday? Do you enjoy door to door trick-or-treating with young children? Everyone knows that Halloween is all about the delicious candy, devious tricks, and a fun scare, right? Not anymore.
The world shook when John Carpenter released his newest addition to the horror film family, Halloween (1978). A psychotic killer, institutionalized from childhood, escapes to fulfill an important mission-to find and kill his sister. Every year, on Halloween night, he seems to resurrect and unleash murder and mayhem on the community in his search for her.
Singer and director Rob Zombie wanted to take Carpenter’s idea of a macabre holiday and make it his own. His mission was to set out and rewrite the original Halloween movie with modern clichs and twists. For example, in the beginning of his first remake, Halloween (2007), he adds more background information on Michael Myers. The audience can see how an innocent child can be corrupted by bad parenting.
In this installment of Zombie’s Halloween series, he once again visits Michael Myers. But, this time, with less than stellar results. Instead of following Carpenter’s progression of the story, he deviated and transformed it into a complete gore fest. The movie lacked plot, but what it did not lack was blood and violence. In every scene, there was some form of mindless killing. If you had not been following the original series, you would be hard pressed to see any story. In my opinion, you would be better off to skip Zombie’s ‘vision’ and stay faithful to Carpenter’s original version of this blood fest.
“Was that the Boogeyman?” Laurie Strode sobs as she is comforted by Dr Loomis. No, Laurie. It was just a horrible dream you had of Rob Zombie throwing a movie together to make millions.
Stephanie Lulewicz, an average viewer, a perfect guide for movie reviews.

This is the first I even heard of the movie. Good review, though. If I ever see that at the movie rental, I’ll be sure to stay clear. I’m not really a fan of slasher films. Thanks!
