Bored to Death is a Great New Show

Every year, it seems like a new television show comes out that grips its viewers and immediately pulls them in.
It looks as if the comedy for 2009 that does this will be Bored to Death, a new series on HBO that broadcasts every Sunday night.
While I don’t watch the episodes live, I’ve caught all three episodes so far on demand, and I’ve absolutely loved every one of them.
This show, which takes place in New York, centers around the life of 30 year old Jonathan Ames (played by Jason Schwartzman), a successful novelist struggling to write his second novel. His girlfriend has just left him, making his life more difficult than before, and he’s trying to find his way from here.
Seeking some kind of adventure, Ames placed an ad on Craigslist, claiming to be an unlicensed private investigator who could help people uncover mysteries they’re trying to figure out.
In episode 1, he helped a girl find her missing sister. In the second episode, he helped a woman to see if her boyfriend was cheating on her, only to find the boyfriend with his (Ames’) ex girlfriend.
With many interesting twists and turns, this is smart humor at its finest. Not only is the humor smart, but the acting is superb. Ted Danson’s role as an older writer that Ames does work for is superb, and there have been plenty of classic comedic moments through just three episodes of the show’s existence.
Many fans are looking forward to the rest of the season.
