Baby Mama – Essential Life Lessons
October 17th, 2008 Filed under: Uncategorized — Movie CriticBaby Mama?! What life lessons can be extracted from a crude comedy with SNL Characters Tina Fey and Amy Poehler? Surprisingly, there are quite a few throughout the movie. The first lessons in Baby Mama is the need for people to feel important; even lying to obtain the feeling. Another life lesson is the importance of making friends with acquaintances. The final lessons is found in many movies, and it is the element of forgiveness. Baby Mama is a fun comedy, also filled with life lessons. Recommended for fans of positive-themed movies.
It is in natural human nature to want to feel important. By carrying Kate’s baby, Angie felt very important. Kate often verbally reiterated her appreciation to Angie for carrying the baby, which further increased her feeling of importance. So when Kate ‘takes away’ Angie’s feeling of importance, it is no surprise that she is extremely upset. At the end of the movie, in the long run, Angie feels important for helping Kate improve her lifestyle. If we felt important all of the time, it would make life so much easier.
At first, Kate and Angie are complete opposites, and can’t stand each other. The intelligent executive, and the rude and careless girl. They eventually become good friends after adapting to each other’s lifestyles. This is also true in real life: When 2 people spend a certain amount of time together, they essentially have no choice but to become friends. If you are ever put into a situation where you are forced to get along with someone, you may find it easier than it first seemed.
Forgiveness is a common theme found in many movies, which further proves how important it is. Don’t hold grudges, because it doesn’t benefit anyone. If Kate had not forgiven Angie, things would have played out differently in the end of the movie. Likewise, if you don’t forgive those who have wronged you, things will play out differently in your life. The element of forgiveness is so important to living a fuller life. So many people who hold grudges wonder why they aren’t happy; they should forgive and forget.
Baby Mama was a big surprise. As a comedy, it was hilarious, and it was full of life lessons. The 3 essential themes are the feeling of importance, making friends, and forgiveness. The goal is a better life, and these 3 lessons can take you very close.
